In 1973, James Trueman frequently traveled by road, exploring the country while doing what he loved most: auto racing.
But something was missing. He noticed that travelers like him had to stay miles and miles away from the racetrack at high-price hotels where they only saw their room when it was time to sleep.
He wanted to make things right. What these travelers really wanted was a nearby hotel that offered a clean, comfortable room with attentive guest service at a value price.
Trueman went on to become an Indy-winning race team owner and the founder of Red Roof, with his first inn opening in Columbus, OH where guests paid only $8.50/night.
